The MOTIVATION
There is currently no means to ensure the safety of an officer and a motorist during a traffic stop.
This is a problem that was made painfully clear through the shootings of Philando Castile and Michael Flamion this past summer.
Unfortunately, these shootings are only the tip of an iceberg. According to the FBI, between 2000 and 2012, 127 police officers have been killed and 72,413 have been assaulted during traffic stops.
A majority of the officers that were killed were at a distance between 0 and 5 feet from their attacker [1]. On the other side of the encounter, over 100 individuals were shot and killed during traffic stops in 2015 alone [2].
Statistics like these help reinforce exactly why routine traffic stops are stressful and sometimes deadly situations for motorists and law enforcement officers alike.
We don’t believe that this status quo is acceptable. That’s what motivated them to develop and build the Sentinel Robotic System.

3D printing & policing
Indeed, 3D printing can help provide policing solutions, but as with any technology, it has its limits. These include high costs, low print quality and the need for expert users. But when used within its constraints, 3D printing can create opportunities for investigators that weren’t possible before.
For one, 3D printed prototypes can be created from crime scene data or victim statements much faster than waiting for traditional methods like casting or milling. Second, 3D printed models can be used to create customized training aids for police and first responders. This includes everything from shooting targets to virtual reality headset simulations of hostage situations.
Finally, some police departments are using 3D printers in-house to create evidence markers, crime scene diagrams and even 3D models of victims to aid in identifications. This is especially helpful when investigating cold cases where traditional evidence may have degraded.
3D printing is still in its infancy, but it has potential to be a valuable tool for law enforcement agencies in the future. As the technology continues to develop, we can expect to see even more innovative applications for 3D printing in policing.
